I Wish I Was a Seagull

I Wish I Was a Seagull

I wish
I were a seagull
Soaring in the sky
Alone, no other friends
I’d need
No plaintive calls
Look at me
No choking calls
No alarms
Just me
High above the ocean blue
Slipping through the summer mists
Carried on a gentle wind
A wary eye keeps watch
Diving now to catch a fish
To feed my fancy flight
A pause to rest
Here or there
A moment to reflect
If I were a seagull
I’d have no words to say
No thoughts to think
No worry for the winter winds
That soon will end my days

what’s left of summer
